Vaidya Upahar Gruha is one of the oldest and unique misal in Pune.

This misal is very different from any other misal in Pune and has a very unique taste of its own. Unlike the other misals, rassa/gravy is green in color. Misal has potato, pohe and matki as the base and is topped up with onion, coriander and coconut flakes. This is topped with mixed farsaan consisting of thick sev and fine poha flakes . The misal is less spicy than the traditional ones.

Instead of Pav, misal is served with bread slices which go equally well with misal. The green rassa / gravy has tomatoes and curry leaves and is a bit tangy with a hint of ginger and green chillies. It looks similar to the green matar usal that one makes at home. Apart from misal, this joint is also famous for batata bhajji (potato pakoda) and kharwas/chik (a traditional Maharashtrian sweet pudding made from the milk of cow who has just given birth to calf and is known to be very nutritious).

Vaidya Upahar Gruha has retained its antique look.in the restaurant. The ambience makes you feel you are back in the 1970s, in a single room with old electric switches, tables and fading paint. This look adds to the charm of the place as you are transported to a different time when you enjoy the food.
