Ghee Mysore Masala Dosa
Hotel Vaishali in FC Road, Pune is well known for its legacy and has maintained its popularity over decades.
Punekars have been coming to this restaurant for over 5 decades and the best part is that Vaishali has maintained its quality and standards pretty well considering it is a long period of time. Masala Dosa and Sev Potato Dahi Puri (SPDP) are probably two of the most popular items here. We picked their Ghee Mysore Masala Dosa and SPDP as our favorites.
The masala dosa is neither too crisp, not too soft – it’s somewhere in between. It has a orange chutney spread all over the inside and the potato sabji is a delightful mix of sweet, spice and salt. If you are someone who absolutely does not like a little sweetness in sabji, this dosa might not appeal as much to you. Nevertheless millions of Punekars vouch by this, so we recommend you just try it without high expectations or bias, The sambar of Vaishali is also sweet, salty and spicy which goes well with the dosa. Chutney is rich in coconut and thick and it tastes amazing!
The other dishes you can try at Vaishali Pune are
SPDP: Sev Potato Dahi Puri (available on in the evenings after 5 pm)
Veg Cutlet, Idli – Wada, Filter Coffee and most of their dishes are good. Overall food is good.
Additional Notes
If there's one restaurant where you almost always have to wait for a table, it is Hotel Vaishali in Fergusson College Road Pune. Vaishali is popular with Punekars who have been associated with the city for decades and any old time Punekar will swear by it. With the explosion in number of restaurants in the city, millennials are spoilt for choice and Vaishali is not the only go-to place like it was in the 90s. Yet with so many good dining choices coming into Pune, it is creditable that Vaishali has retained a lot of its clientele.
Restaurant Description
Vaishali is a legacy in Pune and one that has been popular over the years. Centrally located on FC road, this restaurant is a hangout both for young Fergusson college students and their much older alumni who still go there for morning breakfast and coffee. The taste is great but sometimes the young generation does not really get why its so popular. You have to be a Punekar from the 90s for that
