Samosa in Pakwaan have its own unique flavour. The outer cover has sprinkles of ajwain (carom seeds), masala is slightly green in color and has a distinct taste of coriander and mint. You can see whole coriander seeds and saunf in the masala. Potatoes are completely mashed and masala is very flavourfull with a hint of sweetness. You get the same taste whenever you taste it !!

We tried Samosa at ‘Pradeep Sweets’ in Pimple Saudagar also and find them also quite good. The masala there is quite different from Pakwaan – it is more tangy with a hint of coriander & curry leaf and potatoes are not completely mashed (you can see the distinct pieces).

Below are some other good places to try samosa or samosa chat in Pune –

Vishal Chat Bhandar, Pimpri

Samosa is one of the most popular snack across India with every city having its own unique taste. Some cities like Delhi or Mumbai has several different varieties of Samosa. It is said that Samosa changes its taste every 1 km in Delhi. In some shops in Delhi you find cashewnuts and kismis in the masala while some have paneer (like the ones you get in Punjab). In West Bengal and Bihar it is called Singhara – it is slighlty sweet and has potato, cauliflower/peas(optional), and peanuts, its outer covering is thinner than the punjabi samosas and masala typically incudes panch phoron (tradional bengali mix of 5 spices). In Pune & Mumbai, you also find pattie samosas in Irani joints where the outer covering is layery (like pattice) and masala inside has vegetables like cabbage and carrots.
