Verandah is the typical pure veg restaurant in Pune where you get almost all the cusines – maharashtrian, north indian, south indian, continental, deserts and fast food (burger, cutlet etc). Although all the food items are good, it is mostly famous for its maharashtrian food items specially sabudana khichdi and thalipeeth. One unique thing about Verandah is its ‘Single Serve’ meals which offers different meals with portion size for a single person (like Paneer Butter Masala with 2 naan/kulcha/roti, Pat Wadi Rassa with chapati/bhakri).  It is a perfect family place with very nice ambience. The only problem is the waiting time as it is almost always crowded with waiting time from 15 min (weekday offpeak hours) to 1 hr (weekend night time).

A good Sabudana Khichdi is probably one of the rarest food items to find in any food joint – you either find it undercooked or cooked properly but very oily. The one you get in Verandah is close to perfect and probably one of the best you would find in Pune. The sabudana pearly are fluffy and perfectly cooked with coating of peanut and topped up with fresh shredded coconut. It is served with a small plate of koshimbir which has the typical sweet Puneri taste. We also tried thalipeeth, misal pav and roasted badam halwa and found them to be very tasty.

Below are other food joints serving authentic sabudana khichdi –

  1. Shree Datta Snacks, Pune Mumbai Expressway near Lonavala
  2. Anand Snacks, Karve Road
