SPDP : Sev Potato Dahi Puri
An all time favorite of Punekars is Vaishali’s famous Sev Potato Dahi Puri or SPDP. SPDP is also called as Sev Batata Puri or Dahi Puri in other parts of India and is a common chaat / snack item. The specialty of Vaishali SPDP is that it is a combination of sweet, spicy and tangy chutneys. It is sweeter than dahi puri you might get in other places and is loaded with a tasty sev. The overall combination of the chutneys, sev, puri and dahi leads to a heavenly combination that has been an all time favorite of many Punekars. Vaishali SPDP is considered a must-try dish by many locals of Pune. However, given the hype about it, sometimes it does not meet expectations of everyone. Still we would definitely recommend it as a must-try dish. Just don’t go with very high expectations as expectations often tarnish our perception of the taste.
SPDP – A super specialty of Hotel Vaishali, FC Road Pune.
Note: It is available only after 5 pm so dont expect it if you go in the morning.
Other dishes to try in Hotel Vaishali:
Veg Cutlet, Sabudana Wada, Upma, and many more. Overall food is good here.
Additional Notes
SPDP is a sweet & savoury snack food, especially popular in Maharashtra. It is a type of chat, made up of poori which is topped up with boiled potatoes, yogurt, chutney, masala and sev.
Restaurant Description
Vaishali is a legacy in Pune and one that has been popular over the years. Centrally located on FC road, this restaurant is a hangout both for young Fergusson college students and their much older alumni who still go there for morning breakfast and coffee. The taste is great but sometimes the young generation does not really get why its so popular. You have to be a Punekar from the 90s for that
